Re: Console users call themselves gamers
I don't own any consoles now,but...
If it weren't for the success of the old ones (Atari,Intellivision,Genesis,SNES),there probably wouldn't be computer games as we know them. Electronic games started in the arcades then went to the consoles....long before Al Gore even thought of inventing the interweb. The consoles are what started the home-gaming craze.
And FTR.....I could finish Super Mario Bros. on one quarter(back in the day).....easily. :9

Re: Console users call themselves gamers
lol I made this thread because of seeing a few guys at QuakeCon saying that Consoles were the end all be all of gaming systems. I tried to explain to them that consoles are old technology and very limited. They did not understand. It wasn't supposed to be a war against any actual console gamers.
I like my PC. Mouse/Keyboard = the best gaming controllers. At least I think so, but to each their own!

The thing with consoles is that they are designed to be ahead of current gaming technology. To be more specific...
The Xbox 360 is outdated, yes, but the graphics are getting better and better. The GPU on the 360 is the same as the GPU in the ATI HD2900XT. Outdated, yes, but they keep pushing the system to it's limits. Games like Call of Duty 4 and World at War run pretty impressively on the 360, seeing how it is an "outdated" system.
I don't think game developers have evan began to push the limitations of the Playstation 3. There is a lot of potential with this system. As with most consoles, the game developers seem to get better and better and the system matures.
Remember back when Super Nintendo came out with Donkey Kong Country? That game had the best graphics of any SNES game out on the market... but it came out after the system had aged and the developers had "mastered" the limitations of the system. PC gamers usually don't have to worry as real gamers have systems well above the "recommended" system requirements. We just get picky and want 100+ FPS, which is somewhat unreasonable for every game.
Take Crysis. I built a system JUST to run the game... and when I did, it still ran crappy in some parts. I mean, 30-40 FPS is... okay. But I was used to having over 100 for my Source engine games. I realized that I would need a much beefier system to get the best out of Crysis. PC gamers are just too picky. And who can blame us if we are used to having the latest and greatest games run perfect?
