Banana Mags
Box Mags
Pistol Mags
Rifle Mags
Rotary Mags
Moon Clips (used in revolvers)
Stripper Clips (used on rifles)
Nipple Clips (used on bust's mom)
There is a big difference. Rifles can have both. I can load Magazines for an M16 by using stripper clips and a speed loader. I can use stripper clips to fill the internal magazine in an SKS or M1 Garand. I can use stripper clips to load the fixed magazine in an old mauser broomhandle pistol.
Most modern firearms use detachable magazines and the only time clip is mentioned is if the ammunition comes pre loaded on them for speed loading the magazines.

Guns are dangerous....and take knowledge to handle correctly and safely. When you make small errors like that, it shows that you lack this firearm knowledge, and therefore cannot be trusted with a gun.
It's not elitist, it's just having knowledge of firearms. Saying "clip" instead of "mag" is the same as saying shit like "busting caps"...it shows a lack of knowledge on something that is very dangerous without the knowledge.

it's considered one of those things you should just already know, and have learned with basic firearm instruction. That's why, if you don't know the difference, it can be unnerving.
