And my point is there are, and were, rules in place, yet nobody was willing/able to enforce them, so as I have said in other posts how does it help to make more rules if we are not enforcing the current rules until it is "a day late, and dollar short."?

You keep giving Obama and his czars the power, you'll be ready to leave this country soon....if our government will allow it

Sorry, anything the government takes control of, almost always winds up in the shitter.
I never said anything about Obama and his Czars. Everyone clouds the issue at hand, which is our health care needs reform and our banking industry simply cannot be trusted. If the government does not regulate these crucial entities, then America will continue to get fucked. Maybe it has not impacted you, so you don't see it... but I have seen it. I have had family members lose their home, friends that had parents working for Worldcom, losing almost everything. Hell, I lost my job due to the housing market turning to shit... along with 700 other people in my office. I felt the impact, as have others here at TTP. The housing market lost control with investors and speculators. Gas went up for the same fucking reason. We aren't paying the true price of a barrel of oil... we are paying the price set by the speculators and investors. The auto makers suffered because nobody had money to buy cars. It wasn't because GM cars had high gas prices... it was because people were losing their homes, or were laid off, or had been unemployed for long periods of time.

It seems to me like the programs not run by the government or run poorly by them end up in the shitter...

And for the record, I have no problem paying higher taxes to support these programs, as long as I know they will be available for me if I need them. This includes health care reform (as I have been laid off and unemployed, with no insurance... scary), reform of the banking system and mortgage companies, and Social Security (yes, I would like to retire some day... who knows... I may need it). Do you have any idea what would have happened if GM would have completely shut down? The Government had to step in and do something because it was better than doing nothing. Could there have been a better plan? Sure... but it is easy to play Monday morning quarterback.

I agree with what you are saying, which is a completely separate issue altogether. Our country isn't doing it's job. I wouldn't even know where to go find out why we suck so much... could have something to do with federal tax cuts or tax cuts from agencies responsible for regulating this stuff... I just don't know.

So let's make a bigger, stronger government when the big, strong government we have is failing to do their job? Makes sense to me.

Because someone is now enforcing them. Apparently the last guy didn't want to enforce them.

Oh, and I like how callous infers that now that a democrat is in office, there are only now bankers appointed to head treasury posts........

So you say today, but I am sure if you went back in time prior to Madoff, Enron, or the Fannie/Freddie fiasco the same would have been said. Who jumps up and admits they aren't doing their job? My best guess is that in 6 months to a year there is something else, then another something else, and so on because regardless of the laws people are always looking for loopholes.
