Truck Problem

If it were the PCV valve, I would be really surprised. Unless you've seen the check engine light come on, most likely it's not throwing any codes....

As you say, you are able to start it with the pedal pushed in correct? And then, it will even run as long as you continue to hold the pedal in correct? Shouldn't have anything to do with your spark I'm assuming...but then, I'm only guessing. I'm curious when you do figure it out...

With those symptoms it could very easily be spark...

Sounds like the airflow is stopping when you take the foot off the throttle to me, does the engine have a carburetor?

I'm pretty sure it's going to be fuel injected.

What I thought, wasn't sure though, I'm not familiar with newer trucks. My '85 Dodge Ram with the 318 engine has a carb and I just have to make sure it stays open and gets warm air so it doesn't stall on cold days.

ya lol it's a 2000.. it will be fuel injected. Newer models now have injected rather than carb, it's better in fuel consumption.

My old '67 on the other hand... Is carb. I need to take it out when I get back to Houston.

I would go get it scanned, see what's up.

That's a sensor issue or bad computer. My first guess would be throttle position sensor and the one i will describe in a second then moving to the cam shaft position sensor. Others that can cause that problem are going to be MAP, MAF, I can not think of the name for this one but it is common on fords. Look at your engine directly about the air intake and butterfly you will see a round almost cone shaped aluminium sensor. It's about 1.5 inches wide and 3 to 4 inches long. This sensor directly effects idol and is the most likely colprite in a ford not idoling.

Of course a scanner would be helpfull. Just because your check engine light isn't on does not mean the computer didn't store any codes. It only has to flash 1 time to store the code. Just throwing this out there but it isn't likely. If your catalitic converts are clogged it will do what your saying but when it's running for a while the will start to glow red from the built up heat and pressure.

I had this happen on my Dodge, I could roast hot dogs with it. Sounds like sensors to me as well, death has the knack for this stuff for sure.

Just throwing up ideas here, might want to check cylinder valves and make sure there is no blockage or build up of any sorts.

that could prevent fuel from entering the cylinder....

but what do I know? I'm just a senior in high school.
