Re: Carter: playing the race card

I just hope that Bin Laden isn't used politically, even though I know he might be.

I honestly hope he isn't captured alive, because that will start a major debate on executing him or not, etc.

Back on topic, Carter is old news and thinks that by bringing up stuff like this he will remain relevant.

Even if some think he was stupid for the comment, I am glad Joe Wilson made the comment only because I like when folks are brave enough to go beyond protocol and actually stand up for something they believe in. Political games and back room deals have made the government a huge hump on the back of the American people that I hope can be healed by some honesty..... even if I don't think it will be possible without major reform.

    Truth is a big picture...

From your article..."FAIR has a point that illegal immigrants would likely be able to buy insurance on the national health insurance exchange. We don't see anything in the bills that would hinder that."

The "truth" of wilson's statement depends on the public option. True, if illegals purchase insurance on the exchange then they are paying as well but the potential exists for abuse of the public option. (but who abuses social programs anyway )

Keyword: BUY. They could have still BOUGHT insurance, just like they can now. Buying insurance and being covered by taxpayers, which is what Obama was talking about when Wilson yelled, are two different things. We should absolutely allow illegals to buy insurance otherwise they remain a burden on the taxpayers when they show up to ER's.

A public option is not a social program. It is an insurance option that has to be bought by people, just like all other insurance.

It is a government program.. and a federal one. It is also not a regulation on interstate commerce thus not really legal under the constitution like so many other things the fed works around. While it could be loosely put under the preamble of 'General Welfare' it still should be delegated by the state governments rather than the federal.

I do not trust the federal government to run this efficiently as they have a history of wasting the money I entrust to them.

Stamps have to be bought by the people to send items through the Post Office... I do not see much efficiency there as an example.

Social programs are those funded by the government to provide a service to the people. A public option is payed for by the subscribers who have to pay premiums, just like any other insurance plan, not the government. The USPS is a bad comparison because it is funded by the government but uses stamp sales to offset some of those costs.

Jimmy Carter is THE worst president in recent history .......... having said that he should go back to banging nails for Habitat ! His comments are in itself Racist ! So he must include himself as one of the Racist people from the south. He should do like Old Soldiers to quote MacArthur ......... and just Fade Away !
