And I graduate in December, I've just been riding this job until I get done with school because it's easy and I like the people I work with. I can see light at the end of the tunnel!

I worked retail or food industry for close to ten years..so I feel your pain PC. It did make me a much better customer though. So much so that I came up with this (incredibly socialist, and not at all possible ) idea.

Some countries have rules that every citizen has to serve in the military for a few years, I suggest something similar. Every citizen has to serve 1-2 years in either retail or food service, including holidays. I think it would improve most people to no end, once they had to see what it's really like.

If I may, I'd like to add something to your list..

Be extra nice, and extra respectful to anyone working on a holiday. Especially anyone who works in a mall during the Christmas season..what they go through would make most peoples' blood curdle.

whats wrong with small talk? When i worked fast food (it was similar to subway) it was great to get someone in an actual good mood and talking/joking etc. Most of the people that come look at you and act like your Hitler or something.

Honestly, it really just depends. I didn't really write clearly on the one about asking how my day is. It's more the people that ask me if I'm having a good day because I don't a big goofy smile plastered on my face. Small talk is fine...shit, it would take me about a page of writing to explain well what I mean.

Good thing I don't eat at Subway. I never liked their sandwiches. I am also boycotting them because their commercial featured a guy with a Nickelback shirt. Why? Because it's a blatant lie! Nobody likes Nickelback.

i always try to learn the lingo at places like subway (chipotle is the only other one i can think of at the moment) and answer questions before they ask them, but then i feel like i'm barking orders or something. i'm sure you've had quite a few people like that who know what they want etc... what do you think?
