09-17-09, 04:33 PM #1Constitution discussion
Being its Constitution Day and of all things was watching Glenn Beck (Science and/or god save me) i thought it would be worth hearing your thoughts on it.
Example questions/discussion points:
Your feelings on the Constitution
Does it still apply to today
Do you feel it is hardcoded or a "living document" (so to speak)
What do you feel is the most important part of the Constitution
What do you think is the least important (doesn't make it not important, but all things have something of less importance then the others)
Obviously don't need to answer all or any of those, just whatever you want to say (so long as it isn't breaking any rules)

Re: Constitution discussion
Your feelings on the Constitution: Badass. 'Nuff said.
Does it still apply to today? Umm yeah, it will apply forever.
Do you feel it is hardcoded or a "living document"? To meet the demands of a differing world changes are necessary, but for the most part it's hard-coded.
What do you feel is the most important part of the Constitution: The Bill of Rights. The People

I think it is a living document as i think laws are as well. However i'd say 99.9% still applies to the current world and may be small bits here and there that aren't as adaptive to our world.
Still i think it lives, and laws live because i believe most documents are all about how a culture views them. Like how we at one time thought slavery and segregation was okay because it was basically our culture. Now a days you'll probably be had press to find anyone who says slavery is a great idea.
Now i don't expect to ever see the Constitution change in the near future (despite what some of the super nutjobs may feel) because i think as a culture we still see it as what makes America, America. In 100 years we may end up with something completely different if the culture changes.
For the most important part, tough to say. Probably the Amendments (Bill of Rights) with 2nd being Articles I through IV
Least important, i'll have to take a long look to see.

Re: Constitution discussion
I wanted to post in this but got side tracked with 25 other important threads on the site.
The constitution is absolutely living. It was written that way. I just would be VERY careful when creating laws and amendments that practically go against what the constitution states.
The most useless piece of it would be the 18th amendment. I mean, did they REALLY believe that it could possibly work? What a bunch of morons...honestly.
The most important in my opinion would be the bill of rights as well as the preamble. They are rights that the government cannot and should not try to usurp. I mean ALL fucking 10.
The libertarian club in my school held a quasi rally in the busiest part of our school. We asked random passerbys if they could name all 10 amendments. No one could. The closest we got was 7. :3Code:____ U ___ u _____ U _____ u __ __ ____ _ __ _ _ U _____ u U| _"\ u \/"_ \/|_ " _| \| ___"|/U|' \/ '|uU| _"\ u|"|/ / ___ | \ |"| \| ___"|/ \| |_) |/ | | | | | | | _|" \| |\/| |/\| |_) |/| ' / |_"_| <| \| |> | _|" | __/.-,_| |_| | /| |\ | |___ | | | | | __/U/| . \\u | | U| |\ |u | |___ |_| \_)-\___/ u |_|U |_____| |_| |_| |_| |_|\_\ U/| |\u |_| \_| |_____| ||>>_ \\ _// \\_ << >> <<,-,,-. ||>>_ ,-,>> \\,-.-,_|___|_,-.|| \\,-.<< >> (__)__) (__) (__) (__)(__) (__) (./ \.)
