Ever have one of those fabulous days?
Hey guys n gals,
So today started off about 3 hours ago (8am)....well i was having trouble lowering my gas tank so i could get the rear lowering kit on my truck done.
For some reason, i hit it with a soft little rubber mallet, and it fell onto the loosened gas tank straps (a good thing)...because then i could get my new leaf spring on the drivers side of my truck.
Well about 20min ago, i got a call from a local and fairly large family owned General Motors (chevy/gmc/buick/pontiac/hummer/etc) dealer. They have 3 stores, all in good, key locations.
Well the one closest to me, needs a new service underwriter (i'd work under the service manager, telling customers whats wrong with their car, how a part would fix that car, etc.....which is as natural as the english language to me (ive been working on cars since i was 12 with my brother building motors with him).
That pay is excellent if i do get the job, i know the entire staff at the dealership (in thepast year we've bought 1 car and 3 trucks from them). Anyway, ive applied there once before about a year ago when the previous service manager was hot, but a complete b*tch. Well she's pregnant now, and got a demotion to the parts department instead.
So i have a pretty good feeling about landing a solid job, that would allow me to farm on the side still, although my hours would be significantly later.
I'd start off at $10/hr, plus 10% commission i believe.....the current service manager, told me he's looking right around $45K this year, and its his first year. He never went to college, started off at the bottom and worked his way up, but he knows i don't really need to go through that cycle.
im super excited, cuz maybe, just maybe, i would be able to afford a new Crew cab shortbed duramax diesel by the end of feb. 07.
So basically, my dreams of an ag shop would be closed, except for weekends....since i'd be working 7am-5pm mon-fri, and 7am-noon on sat., but everyday afterwork in the spring/fall, i'd be working until about midnight or so in the field.

RE: Ever have one of those fabulous days?
That doesnt sound like a bad day at all - but it sounds HELLA long -
Thats like 15, 16 hour days......and that takes it's toll after a few weeks - It's impossible to maintain IMHO full time - maybe a month or two.....and the money sounds pretty good....
Ever though about insurance sales?

Go easy on the guys selling insurance. You never know when you might be surrounded by them.
I nearly lost my shirt while trying to start my own agency. Probably would have made it if I hadn't spent 8 days in the hospital having my gallbladder removed and then 6 weeks recovering. But God had different plans for my family!
s3gulit, I thought that you were being sarcastic by calling today "fabulous". That's sounds like a good opportunity. Good Luck!

yeah man, today was a good day for me, lol.....went to the local chevy dealership, filled out the app, had the service manager give me a little info about the job and a little interview to get to know me a little bit. He said if the Underwriter job might fall through, he said he would gurantee me a job as a tech in the service bays....$15/hr is the starting wage as a service tech.
Also, just because ive wanted one for awhile, i believe (if my dad comes through with his promise of co-signing for me)....i bought a new 2007 Yamaha YFZ-450 ATV today, and talked the salesman into givin me free nerf bars, new bumper, slip on pipes, as well as an extra set or wheels/tires for the rear:dance:
