    Any coasties here?

    I'm thinking about the Coast Guard after college....and I really don't know much about it. Do we have anyone here that can give some insight? Is the training similar to any of the other branches? Still 9 weeks?

    I want to be a pilot, but am unsure of the process. And our nearest recruiter is in Indianapolis.

    Granted this is all after college, I want to get my education out of the way before I do any service.

    There are at least two training bases here in NJ/NYC. Training to be a pilot? You would be better off going to the navy. You will mostly fly helos to rescue stranded sailors or possibly fixed wing behemoths like the C 47. Is that what you want to do?

    Yes, I want to (hopefully) fly rotary wing aircraft in search and rescue missions.

    I've been a coastie kid my entire life, and 4 of those years on a base. so...prolly cant give you advice but uhh, basic is 8 weeks :] and if you are going to collage first, deff check out officer candidate school. http://www.gocoastguard.com/find-you...asic-training/
