Lame. It's like they expect people to be responsible for the injured man.

When, I first watched the tape a few days ago I noted how quickly the police car arrived on the scene (under a minute). Obviously someone had called 911 immediately.

Today there was an update to the story:

City officials later acknowledged that police received four 911 calls immediately after the incident, and release portions of two calls on Friday.

"Send an ambulance quick, quick, quick, he's bleeding hard," one man implores a 911 operator.

It seems to me that a lot of the people were shocked and just didn't know what to do in the situation. So, some did what you should always do - call 911.

After getting hit at that rate of speed, he must have been a mess. The average person's knowledge of first-aid would not have cut it here. He needed to get to a hospital ASAP.

And I'm going to give the benefit of the doubt to the people, like the guy on the motorcycle, who saw the crowd of people and maybe even someone on a cellphone and probably realized that help was on the way. Unless you have the knowledge to help the guy or were a witness, your not going to be much help once 911 has been called.

Yea but see, the problem is that a lot of people would see a crowd there and just decide they'd be of no help, that somebody else would sort it. It's just lucky that in this case somebody had called 911.

not a chase, a race, a pair of idiot kids are racing their rice rocket cars in the city street. Its bad enough when you encounter them on the freeway (had 6 idiots on motorcycles doing over 100 this weekend, one almost got smeared) And if you look one of the men 'gawking' apears to be on a phone.
