Re: Our current Educational System
Including that would probably only hurt the essay. Save changing the education system until youre inside it
The GE requirements are worthwhile IMO. No matter what degree program you choose, its not useful to yourself or society if you cant share it (writing skills), pay for it (finance), use it for good not evil (philosophy), etc. Wait until you see your college core requirements, to get a computer engineering degree you have to do engineering core classes. Try rationalizing why a computer nerd needs up to chem 300. :5

The criticisms I made are what you will face if you choose to use this as the subject of your essay. You will have a tough time selling the notion that there is a flaw in a system to the people that administer that system. You will have to make your argument bullet proof by proving that some definable and significant set of students are worse off because of the existing system. The number injured must be large because they set out to accommodate the majority, not the entirety. Whatever you do DO NOT use yourself as an example because you will come off as arrogant no matter how you try to frame it.
Lastly keep in mind that part of the point of getting a degree is to show that you can and will jump through hoops to attain one. If we could all design our own degrees they would not carry much weight. This is exactly why some degrees are more highly valued than others.
You may be able to make this argument successfully, but you are going to be fighting uphill both ways.

the problem with the current education system is (at least up to college) its about the Lowest Common Denominator. We don't want to challenge Kids to actually meet a standard up to par, but rather to dumb it all down so the stupidest kid can pass it.
Hell the AIMS test here went from having a shit load of calc, High level reading etc. to barely Geo I level math problems and dumb downed reading level because people couldn't pass the harder tests. That makes sense right? Instead of addressing the problem that Kids DON'T know what they need for college, we just need to dumb down the test instead.
Never mind the super formualic writing they teach which will get you failing grades when you get into college. But no, its more importants kids have essays with Opening, Fact, 2 opinions, Fact, 2 opinion, Conclusion in each paragraph. That isn't teaching shit to do with writing. Write 2 facts and 1 opinion or 3 Facts etc, and you get marked down. Its not about creative writing or professional writing, instead they just teach fucking bullshit formuals for writing.
