Your opinion is not as conclusive as you think. AVG is good stuff for sure, but it's not the best. I'll take serious 3rd party benchmarks/analyses (i.e. av-comparatives.org) over anecdotal evidence any day. I used AVG for years, and I also used Avira for a bit. Right now I use Avast!

Do I prefer Avast! from all the free options? Yes.

Would I say it's the BEST HANDS DOWN? No, that would be a bit short-sighted... even if it is the best at the moment, the margins are small and there's only so much room at the top.

Not true. One of the main reasons I left AVG was when I upgraded from 7 to 8 (I think) and all of a sudden there were AVG buttons scattered all over my web browsing pages. I'm sure there was a way to disable this, but by default that hardly qualifies as "you never know it's there."

There is a way to keep it off of your web browser. When you choose to instal, select custom instal. When it comes time to instal the AVG toolbar, do not select that one and you will be happy with your results.

I get paid nothing to tell you about any of this. I do know that I work on systems all on the same network and symatec, trendmicro, mcafee, and avast let the things slip through that AVG did not.

Reason for, avg's team that is writing updates is way on top of what is out there and is updating their program every day, when the other big corporation guys are not as on top of current problems.

The stations that have avg, rarely ever need work removing spyware, or viruses and when they do, 9 times out of 10, the user ok'd the software.
