Thread: What do you look for in a game?

How important is the graphic detail of a game for you verses gameplay? Select two options that lie on both sides of your preference (ex if your in-between super mario and super mario world, select the two), or select a single option that best fits your preference.

And yes, i know i am lame, i couldnt think of solid examples for the rest. But dont worry about the exact games mentioned, just focus on the GD and GP!

On a side note, i relize that the poll is flawed for the individuals who prefer a unequal ratio of GD and GP (ex great graphics and great game play), for those individuals select other, and please tell why!

I am between GD8-GP2 and GD7-GP3. Though i prefer an excellent level of graphic detail from a game, ultimately the game play is what determines if i purchase the game or not. Gameplay means a lot to me, but if the graphic's suck, its like nails on a chalk board for me.

Gameplay is most important for me.

I love some Wii games with cartoony or what is considered bad graphics and I still enjoy old classics like Zelda: A Link to the Past.

I went with 4/6 though because on a modern game... if the graphics are horrible and poorly executed I wont even really take much of a look at it. Red Steel for the Wii pushed me away because I couldn't tell what was what.

Game play makes all the difference in the world. Even on max settings, BF2 isnt stellar by any stretch of the imagination, but the gameplay is killer. Graphics do play a critical role, but not nearly as much as gameplay.

For me, it depends on the game. As such I voted 5/5 and 2/8.

For example, if the game has great gameplay and replay value, the graphics typically don't matter to me. Hell I still play a number of my old NES and SNES games because I love the gameplay. The biggest part is usually the story to those games too.

However, is it is a game that has no storyline whatsoever, it'll depend on the games functions. For example, CS:S is an old game and far from being the latest and greatest game. When I do play it, I play it because of the people who play the game despite its flaws in a number of ways. The graphics are decent, and so is the gameplay as a whole, but the people, our community, are what keeps me around.

Not really sure if that makes sense to you but I'm sticking with it.

Graphics are almost entirely irrelevant for me. I can appreciate a good graphics engine, but gameplay is what will keep me playing.

Battle for Wesnoth isn't an especially pretty game - most of the art in it is SNES-quality, but the gameplay is great, and so I play it a lot.

WoW is dated by most standards (and, honestly, so is Diablo 3 and Starcraft 2), but I enjoy the gameplay so I keep playing it.

Same with Half-Life and Half-Life 2, DoD, and countless other games.

Hell, I'm playing through Baldur's Gate again, even though I have to run it at a puny 800x600 resolution - because gameplay trumps everything else.

Whatever happened to MUDs and games like Zork? :<

Im halfway, i like my games to look good, but i still want that gameplay factor.

5/5 as sometimes a game graphic can push me away from playing it. When it comes to actually playing a game i tend to not pay that much attention to the graphics.

My best example is AO, which if i had seen the graphics might of been eh, but played it first and i'd love it if people would actually stop bitching about the graphics and try it. (A game where soloing is boring as fuck, but playing in a group is just awesome imo)

ill play anything as long as its fun but i dont have the imagination to process a MUD. thats too much for me
