Please don't imply that atheists or agnostics do not believe in anything higher or more important than themselves. You probably didn't mean for it to sound that way but it does. No worries, I just had to point that out though :P

But back to the topic, I think a big reason people go to church is because it is one of the few times and places in an all too often conflicted world where almost every individual of the attending community is there in a concerted and honest effort to be good in thought and action. Interacting with other people in this common goal and seeing family, friends, and others all around their area do the same is a great feeling that shows a brighter side of humanity and binds the real world community. The main problem I see with online churches is that they lack much of not only that personal and sensory environment which makes church special, but also that bringing together in good-will of an actual tangible community of a neighborhood, town, what have you- the people you see outside of church as you go about your day to day life. I think not having these key elements would make online church, or any church missing them for that matter, a lot less meaningful, so they won't explode in popularity despite the convenience...though some folks who are lazy or have an absolute necessity to will probably use them anyway.

No thank you. I would rather drag my dick through 8 1/2 feet of broken glass.
I can only assume youv done this before.
Raised catholic...... but I smartened up, and am now recovering from those years.

The online church, although a ridiculous notion to begin with, will be successful.(depending on what is deemed successful) John look at the 700 club, "who'da thunk" that Pat Robertson would have had a successful tv evangelist show on tv back in the 80's? I mean, if someone can be successful selling snake oil on tv, why can't they be the same on the interwebz?
I can't stand Pat Robertson.....makes me want to puke.

While I do not agree with the Church, or religions in general, I can appreciate the revolution in the way technology makes Churches "hold mass" and offer spiritual guidance. Is this something that could catch on? Is an online church like this the same as a regular brick and mortar church? How will this effect the rate at which churches are closing (at least here in the NE they are being closed in droves)?

    What say ye?
As long as they are not asking for money, it sounds good to me.

But we all know that religion is a business.
    Money from who?

Are you concerned about tax dollars or people wanting to give their personal money?

I'm talking about these businesses asking for 'donations'.
