    Hairy goes flying on his Birthday.....

    Hairy goes flying on his Birthday.....

    This is my 2nd and 3rd time flying an R22....I love helos....

    These pics were taken by my dear mother about 100 meters away from the chopper....
    They're of me taking off, landing and strecthing my 6'4 body after being squeezed into an R22 for an hour.

    Day 1 - 50 min cruise into Red Rock Canyon (sorry no pics)
    Day 2 - 1hr of me hovering in different spots on the tarmac at North Las Vegas airport (no pics either)

    This was my first time hovering alone as PIC (Pilot in Command) and the longest I went was 45 seconds. The 20 Knot wind on my ass didn't help but it sure was fun as hell!!!!

    Looks and sounds like you had a great Experience Hairy ! The first helicoter I flew was a Bell 47 (ala MASH) the second was the Bell 206 Jetranger and my last one was the Bell 212 ( civilian model of the Huey twin engine ) Those are memories that will stay with me till the day I die. I used to work at a Bell Helicopter repair center outside NYC and was able through the years to get almost 200 hours of stick time with some really Great Pilots.

    Ooooh wow - That's awesome! That'd be like living a fantasy life for me right there....... How did you make that happen? Civilian hook-ups? Military hook-ups? Filthy effin rich?

    Bruce can I pick your brain from time to time on the subject matter?

    With all those rockstars in your life, you're like the long lost turbine uncle I never knew I had!!

    The 47 looks like a kit to me. Always has. Maybe cause it was also in the Adam West Batman movie.

    LOL Its was just dumb luck that I got the job..... I was working in an auto parts store and the company used to buy their Dupont Imron paint from us. The needed a good parts guy and I got a job with them. As far as all my stick time It came from knowing all the pilots that had helicopters stored at our facility. When the mechanics would finish working on one they'd say hey wanna go for a ride ? LOL I was like a kid in a candy store ! I got to know alot of the pilots and would hitch a ride to JFK or LaGuadia airports when I was going on vacations so I never had to worry about getting to an airport ! One time I was leaving to go to Bell Helicopter in Ft Worth and hitched a ride to the airport but on the way we had to pickup Armond Hammer's daughter (Yes Arm and Hammer ! ) so we flew into his house just before dawn landed on his lighted helipad near the tennis courts. BTW his daughter is as ugly as all get out ! LOL But we flew into LaGuadia together and her father picked up the landing Fee !
