Toshiba Support
Ok, so I fix student laptops for a little extra cash on the side. So i get a Toshiba laptop from a student. The onboard video is dead (no screen function, exterior monitor port also does nothing, but still hear post during boot). I disassemble, prey that the video card is not onboard, but as luck would have it, it is. I call up Toshiba support, and explain the situation, the laptop is 2 months outside of its warranty, and Toshiba denies all coverage. Saying that the owner will have to pay the full replacement cost of the mobo + shipping and the hole caboodle....
Holy shit, really guys? Its not like it was something that the student had anything to do with (ex dropping, or idk coffee spill etc), clearly they just got a bad lemon of the bunch (then again, i see more Toshiba laptops then any other brand). And they want the student to may some near 260$, the full price of the mobo, to fix the defective product they sold them and is only 2 months out of warranty. Talk about #$%^ed-up!
Sigh, i dont know if this is how they conduct their business, or if this is how all their laptops end up, or what ever. I do know, from the phone conversations that i have had with Toshiba support, that i will NEVER-EVER buy anything from Toshiba EVER.

Sad really. But from my experience, that is how most warranties are in general if you don't buy the extra coverage. Regardless of what seems to happen, if the warranty is void, you have to pay to get something fixed.
We have had similar issues with some of our TVs in the past. Just as soon as the warranty expires, the TV starts having problems. Eventually it comes to the point where it was cheaper to just get a whole new TV. Ever since then we've just bought the extended warranty. In reality we shouldn't have to pay for extra warranties like that, but that is a lot of companies ways to get more money out of you one way or another.
Ironically though, the TV we had the most troubles with was Toshiba...but the warranty was through Best Buy...but it makes me second guess some of the quality of Toshiba products. I use to think they were a great company, but not I'm not sure. :3

A buddy of mine had a Dell, and the g-card went out. He was out of warranty, they knew what the problem was exactly, and told him he could buy a new g-card for a couple hundred, or at that moment get an extended warranty for like $50. Since then the mb and hd have gone out and replaced for free. So on a 2 year old laptop it has basically all new components for $50.

My toshiba is going on 6 years old. The battery won't last 15 minutes now, but it can still hang. After 4 years of very heavy use the thermal grease dried and the ram fried. $100 fix. After about 5 years the power cord went out $90 fix. Can't complain with as much as I've used it.
