Thread: I'm going to New York for the first time

Gee I think the Statue of Liberty Ground Zero stop in China Town get some good chinese food the head to Rockefeller Center see the tree Radio City then go up 5th Ave and see all the Christmas decorations in all the stores like Lord and Taylor Macy's Gimbals Tiffany's ect maybe a ride around Central Park in a horse drawn carriage. BUT you have to go to Ray's Famous Pizza !

Don't forget to get hepatitis from a hot dog street vendor.

I would suggest a few less touristy things (kinda), like the Village (St. Mark''s Place) for some awesome food, bars, hookah, etc.

Although things like the MET, or Trump Tower (walk up 5th from Rock and see some super expensive boutiques and whatnot), NBA Store is up there if you want some gear before the game. Carmines is a pretty awesome place to eat, off times square on the side of the Minskoff theater, although I think the name may have changed. The theater is between carmines and the Mariott Marquis.

If she is into watching a show you can try the TKTS booth (underneath the big red stairs in times square) for some discounted tickets.

Chinatown is always an adventure, fake bags, shoes, wallets, and cologne / perfume which are all super cheap and smell the same (probably just stolen goods). Def wander for some dirty looking chinese / japanese restaurant in chinatown... they always have the best food.

Southstreet seaport is kinda cool, built up little shopping center, fun skatepark to watch people fall at (i think the park is still there) and not far from Wall street, which has an awesome little church there.. Trinity or something I think. Also not far from the brooklyn bridge which if you go about halfway out on, you can see the Statute of Liberty and Ellis island, I would not suggest doing the boat tours there because they are kinda pricy for a little ferry to look at a big green woman (which i don't think you can climb anymore).

Off the side of time square, although i'm not sure where, there is a pretty awesome brew pub with some good beer and pretty decent food.

When it comes to food the smaller homier feeling places are usually pretty awesome. Definitely buy one of those pretzles, they are kinda stale and crunchy from being grilled for so long, but they have an awesome taste and are quite addicting. Eat a dirty water dog, which is also super delicious...

I would suggest you get a subway map the minute you get there and buy a $27 5-day subway pass and just use that thing everywhere. Times square has a few lines running through, red, yellow, purple, and the shuttle to grand central (could be off by a line or so) (you need to go see grand central, it is one of the coolest, most beautiful buildings in the city, wikipedia it or something so that you can figure out where the echo room is, if you can find the oyster bar it's in the domed square room before it) Grand central is also near the public library which may be cool to go see.

If you know the address of the place you are going to, and the approximation on the map.. or if you tell the address to a person in the booth at the stops you can figure out how to get around. Just make sure that when the line splits on the map, one of the trains goes that way, and you need to make sure that you aren't on that train (unless you want to go that way, so look for the numbers or letters).

Also, just so you know. MSG is part of penn station, so if you take the subway from times square you can take the subway (local or express) from 42nd street or so (Times Square) to 34th street / 7th ave (which is i think one stop) (which is penn station, and walk through the station and up to MSG, you will see signs at the subway stop for things like LIRR, NJ Transit, AMTRAK, or just Penn Station to lead you from the subway to the station and they all go to the same spot)
