Just had a phone call on my cell phone with just one ring. Looked at the number and for the heck of it googled it. Looks like I'm not the only one

I had a text message the other day from "Unknown Message"

It stated "This is an automated message from Energy Puls CU. Your ATM card has ben suspended. To reactivate call urgent at 8665596182"

Just ignore this stuff guys. Its fucking rediculous, and it sucks. But its the price we pay since 9/11 and nothing is private anymore.

I hate those texts I get that say my Credit Union account has been frozen....I don't even have a credit union account.

How did 9/11 take away our privacy? If anything it's BETTER these days than it used to be (though unrelated to 9/11).

When I was a kid (pre-9/11) my parents got telemarketer calls on the old school rotary phone, all the time, during dinner, etc.

Fast forward to today, we all have caller ID on our cell phones and there are national no-call lists with only a few people immune to them (surveys, charitable orgs) and few ballsy enough to ignore them. But for those few exceptions, you just ignore numbers you don't know (easy with our cell caller ID) and google the phone number if we really care. I actually get more of these weird phone calls on my work phone than my cell phone. Either way, I don't answer them, just google the number and it is easy to see if it's spam.

EDIT: For that matter, since moving to Texas I get FAR more door to door solicitors than phone solicitors. At LEAST once a week some douchebag knocks on my door offering to sell me something, sometimes they come at like 9pm which is just silly. I don't even answer the door if I don't know them. I need to put up a "FUCK YOU" no solicitations sign... but I'm leaving the state soon anyway so I won't bother.

This never happened to me in any of the neighborhoods I lived in FL, hopefully it doesn't happen in CA either.

I realize that.... When I searched the number, I found were numerous people were getting the call, but no body ever said anything about who the number was from, or what the purpose of the call was and if it charges you... Nothing, nado, zero info.
