Re: What a fool!
You guys need to learn to laugh at life. All this hostility over something as simple as a joke is just as bad as the joke to begin with. You guys are using things like "classless" and "uncalled for", so I'll repeat what I told Clint when he PM'd me...
The issue isn't the joke, or even the person it's about, it's about your own insecurities when dealing with things that hit close to home. Unfortunately, that's your problem, not everyone else. Was the joke in poor taste? Sure. That's why it's rests firmly in the realm of a joke. All jokes are in poor taste to someone, somewhere. Fat jokes anyone? I don't hear anyone complaining about all the jokes made at Bush's expense (the Whoopi Goldberg joke about her "bush" comes to mind). Nor did I see anyone in "The Jokes" thread complaining about all the misogynistic jokes in there.
Shall we discuss to all the religious jokes that we have around here? How about homosexual jokes? How many homosexuals read these forums and are scared to stand up because doing so would "out them" in a hostile place? What about those who have lost loved ones in the middle east, should we stop playing games that simulate the deaths of American soldiers because it offends someone?
You guys seem to wanna pick and choose which things your going to be offended by. Well, honestly, if you want me to listen, then you need to hold the same kind of indignation to all jokes types as you do those about Palin. But you don't. If you can't learn to laugh at life's little curveballs, then you guys are in for some very long nights.
Laughing at the darkest places in life is what makes us human. If you have the balls to stand up and laugh in the face of adversity, then you conquer your fear, and move past it. But getting upset because an off-color joke was made just tells me you're letting the fear own you. You're letting your delicate sensibilities be the master of you instead of the other way around. Because all you guys have told me is that I have control over you by the words I say.
Clint, you made your point, and out of respect for you, I took it. But your issue with down syndrome, and mental retardation is yours my friend, not mine. I will gladly refrain from making such jokes in the future, but you should also realize that life's too short to let something like this get to you.
