With the low bitrates they use for most cable/sat broadcasts, you're right. However some 480 DVD's (especially the "superbit" ones with really high bitrate) can be upconverted to look extremely impressive even at 1080.

And that's exactly why I stick with DLP. Can't burn in those.

And as for the service. If you tell them you are going to cancel and sign up again to get their service at the discounted rate or go somewhere else they might acquiesce and give it to you.

Krakkens and shit. stop tempting them.

I have little belief in LCD "Burn in/retention". I have never seen it or know of anyone having it happen.

Re: ...I watch TV in SD.

You don't believe in burning your LCD?

Ok. Make a white picture with a black square in the middle of it. Make it fill your screen, and leave your monitor on for 5 days straight or so.

Then, make the screen all white, and tell me what you see.

Burn happens. the reason I see it on mine is....before I had more HD channels than standard channels...or when I spent most of my time having to watch standard channels (CNN and FNC weren't in HD yet)....the black borders would have to occupy the sides.

meaning...no matter what was going on in the middle....that same black square was on the left and right side of the screen...never moving...always there.

The content in the middle is actually what burns in, since I'm a plasma, and black = no energy, whereas an LCD black = 100% energy to the pixel to block all the back light trying to shine through.

either way...burning is real. Try it, and see. If it wasn't, your TV wouldn't come with a screen wipe feature, which is simply white screen.

Re: ...I watch TV in SD.

I knew someone would tell me an out of realm way to "burn in" my LCD. I've watched 10 hours straight of black bar TV and movies. Nothing.

To me it's as rare as pigs flying.
