Well they do carry a skill that everyone else in the restaurant doesn't. Granted the same could be said for people skills.

The workers who rarely, if at all, deal with people, make the least amount of money.

It's pretty bad, a host on Saturday who literally, and admitted to it, just stood there and told the other hosts where to go all day made as much as me....and I was working my ass of Saturday. Messed up right? To you guys, probably not.

My first night working at Chili's in college, before I became a bartender, the hostess kept calling me "Busser"; "Busser, go bus 25, busser, go bus 14..." yada yada.

So this server named Ken says "He has a name, it's Brian, show some respect..."

So I replied "Nah Ken, it's cool...she can call me Busser and I'll call her by her title - 'Door Whore'".

Oh man, that one-liner set the tone for my whole career there...it lived in infamy for months...

Hey, the hostess is usually hot. As a server, I never fucked with the hostesses, they could make sure I didn't get any tables...or worse, would seat 5 tables in my section at the same DAMN time.

See thats just stupid. If the hostess does that then all the other waiters/waitresses get pissed at the hostess (or you) cause they got no work now. Also it hurts the business for the resturaunt.

That's why I love my job. I bartend usually all day sunday, and pick up random shifts when I have the time.

I get $5.50 an hour, tips which are usually better than people who eat on the floor, and tipout from the servers for making their drinks.

It's pretty awesome. On a slow day the servers may make $20, but I usually walk out with a minimum of $50 - $80 (and I get a paycheck)
