Rather like the sex ed argument. Fine, the parents should teach it at home if you don't want it taught in public school. But the problem is, they don't.
People perform to what is being tested. TAAS testing (at least here in Texas, I do not know what your state requires). Blakeman is right, if you've been given the general tools to perform a job, you should be able to pass the test. Instead, we teach to the test, base schools individual funding on the tests, now teacher's job ratings are being tied to the tests, and so forth.

VOTE!
That is your voice. I hat people that bitch and don't vote. If you dont like the options run for office. It seems everyone wants to bitch but no one will actually go vote and get involved. I write senators and represenatives, I vote in every election.
LOL @ laggy! your old! TAAS was 10 years ago. But I guess that makes me old cause I took the TAAS test. I aced it several years in a row, got fancy certificates from the school board. TAKS is the new test. Like them or not standardized tests are really the only way the state can equally gauge success across the state. Now educators are teaching to the test and thats not right. Give them the knowledge and skills of each subject and they will do fine on the tests.

being in one of the states with shitty education, had a few teachers that taught from the book (mostly history classes). and, at least here, standardized tests (AIMS) are a joke. They have dumbed it down so much i wouldn't be surprised if its at the point some 5th graders could pass the damn thing.
