While that number seems outrageously small, everyone has to realize that we are also talking units of size that are unimaginably small. The best way to relate something this small is to make a similar proportion. Bunni? Mr. White? Care to enlighten us as to a good analogy? This area is not my area of expertise.
    Code:
      ____ U ___ u _____ U _____ u __ __ ____ _ __ _ _ U _____ u
    U| _"\ u \/"_ \/|_ " _| \| ___"|/U|' \/ '|uU| _"\ u|"|/ / ___ | \ |"| \| ___"|/

So does the apparatus take that much energy to charge up the reaction? Was just wondering if this could be harnessed into a source of energy or if it is not as viable.
The whole apparatus takes very special, very expensive magnets in a 27 (?) km circumference to do. It all has to be cooled by liquid helium, which is the coldest substance known to man.

It actually takes the same energy as that provided to a town of roughly 250,000 people to run the thing. So, it's not something that could be adapted into an energy source. Laser fusion is a potentially better option.

1.67262158 × 10-27 kilograms is the mass of a proton, which is one of the particles often thrown around in things like the LHC.

Although actually, I fudged, an electron volt is a unit of energy while a hp is a unit of power.

7 TeV= 2.68*10-7 Calories <----like you see in your food.

For a proton being pushed around the LHC, that's an energy to mass ratio of 6.701*1020!

1 liter of water (1kg of water) being pushed around with that same ratio would be using an energy of 1.602*1020Calories, or 8.01*1017 servings of peanut butter!
