...my drill bit breaks right after...

...I get home from buying the damn thing at the store for $8.

I'm drilling though a strip of metal welded to a piece of welded tube metal (both sides) trying to make a bench and I need a 5/16" bit that will do that, plus drill wood. So I go and get one at Home Depot (35 min drive round trip) drill 2 holes and then snap, two pieces. So back to the store, luckily they replaced it for me. Mostly angry about the travel time and the 4 gallons of gas ($12) it took me to go back and forth.
    We can do better.

Dont buy drill bits from home depot? Rex Supply has good bits for metal. Are you drilling a pilot hole say 9/64" and using oil. And not turning the bit super fast.

Carbide tip should be used for any metal. Costs more but worth it for trips like those.
