Ridley Scott to do 'Alien' prequel

I think its a great idea......... I'd love to see a Beginning of this series. However I just saw a report on the news about Stephen Hawking saying that When aliens come here we will most likely coming out on the Short End of the stick !

Saweet! Alien/Aliens were two really good movies. (the others were okay but the franchise kinda got awry to me after these two)

Funny that I watched them both about 3 weeks ago, classic horror films. And I thought at the time while watching Alien -- "They really need to prequeal this, nothing is explained at all about the origin of this species". About the only criticism I have of Alien is the constant use of ambient "wind" when they are traversing the planet to the beacon. But this was pretty common with movies in the 70's.

I was surprised to find out this wasn't developed from a book, rather the book was written after the film.

Sorry didn't explain that right. Well Im worried that they will get more concerned about special effects and the WOW factor (i.e. avatar) and miss out on some killer story telling. Tons of CGI aliens swarming is cool but not creepy or scary. Actually I hope they dont have any CGI aliens.

Good call on the Hudson quote (Hudson, sir, HE'S Hicks...what's the question, private), that movie is nonstop quote material. So many references in pop culture from Aliens.

It wasn't really your quote that specifically bothered me but I have zero faith in prequels, extending series, etc. The article is quoted from an MTV interview, I just can't imagine it'll be anywhere near the same level as the first two, maybe it'll actually be acceptable (like the third new Star Wars movie, unlike the first two new ones).
