    I suppose this is connected to the fB feature of applications and websites, where friends of friends can see what their friends are recommending/liking/reading on participating sites (cnn.com does it, as I'm sure many others do).

    go browse CNN. notice the new box on teh right side that tells you what people have recommended, and maybe even what your friends have recommended. Just like digg....except now, the sites being digg'd are publishing the diggable ness of it, rather than users going to the digg site to see what's been dugg.

    Essentially, this is the publishing industry (CNN, FNC, NYT, etc) trying to get people off the aggregators and back on their pages (for page views, traffic, and thus money) by allowing the aggregators (in this case, facebook) to have some realestate on the site being aggregated.
