    You get your license...

And yet, your parents STILL won't let you drive!

You tell me if this makes sense. I got my permit May 5th, 2009. Meaning, I can get my license November 5th, 2009. Right? Wrong. Took the parents 363 days to get my license. So for 363 days, I have been driving with a permit. FINALLY, my parents take me to go get my license. I get it. Im all exicted because I get to drive! Then, my parents say they dont want me driving yet... Are you kidding me? Stupidest thing I have ever heard.

Have I ever got into a wreck? No. Have I ever got even close to a wreck? No. Have I made a lot of mistakes at the wheel? No. Have I done ANYTHING to not earn your trust driving? NO!

Explain that to me. I haven't done anything wrong for 363 DAYS! And yet, you still don't trust me... Sad...

    Parents are ridiculous...

    Re: You get your license...

Probably because more children are killed in automobile accidents than by any other method? Your first year of having a license is THE MOST DANGEROUS TIME you will be driving, primarily for the reasons you've displayed here. You don't know what you don't know. You think you've got the experience necessary to successfully drive, but you haven't really been exposed to a lot of different driving conditions. Your experience is still being measured in DAYS. I personally think the US should have requirements closer to what they have in Europe, much more stringent.
So yes, as a 32 year old firefighter who's cut way too many young drivers out of cars because of their inexperience, I do understand their decision.
The only thing to do is drive with them every opportunity you can get, and demonstrate RESPONSIBLE driving, and build their trust. After all, it's their decision.

It's a parent thing. They will get over it. Same thing happened with me and my mother.

If they feel unsafe with you driving alone (I.E. hurt in an accident) try and convince them to get you a cheap older truck that has a metal body (NOT FIBERGLASS!), great starter vehicle, if you hit anything you will be safe for the most part as long as you weren't driving dangerously in the first place. I learned all of that from experience.

Same thing to me, me driving was my last resort since I had no other way to get to class in my senior year of high school.

Those older cars can also be more dangerous if wrecked with something of equal or greater size... The whole idea behind newer "weaker" cars isn't so that they can be made cheaper, they are designed in such a way that when wrecked, the car crumples around the driver slowly so that it lengthens the contact time of the impact reducing the force required to bring the driver to rest. With an older car; yes they are more sturdy but if wrecked with something larger...say a tree...there is no time for the car to "crumple" thus applying all of the force instantaneously which increases the chances for severe neck/back/blunt force trauma.

I see where you're coming from, but that's not me. I have driven with them MANY times and everytime? They say I drive amazingly. I don't get it. It's weird. -_-

Mine crumpled just fine when I hit a boulder as tall as the hood of my truck at 40 MPH.

dude that sucks, i was out on my own 20 min after i got the license, aside from getting almost run off the road once( cost me a tire, cause it skidded on the curb at around 40) other than that its been smooth sailing.

give them time, they will calm down.

So what you're saying is to gain experience in driving by not driving?
