    Re: Getting an Apartment.

Thanks goof, lots of valuable info in there.

It's actually not in DC, different internship (that one is next summer :P) but if you're still there, I'll keep that in mind.

Second, I'll only be staying there for 2mo + 1 week. I guess I'll ask them how that will work.
^ This kinda rules out non-furnished. Do I still need renters insurance?

And, like I said, looking for only 2 months :P so no need to buy a house (although that's what I plan on doing when I move out!)

    Thanks guys.

2 months makes it tough, you are almost better off with a long-term hotel. The lease rates are generally based on 1 yr contracts but increase quite a bit on a smaller term, and the general minimum for new tenants is 3 months (from what i've seen). You may want to also look into sublets since it's not your contract.

I don't know about renters insurance for 2 months, especially if it's pre-furnished, but it's something to look into in the future. I have $15,000 in coverage for about $75 / 6 months.

Hmm... a 3 month lease is going to be difficult to come by. You might be able to get one, but it'll be more expensive (since they will need to find a new tenant and clean the place in a much shorter time period than they want).
Yes, you want - no make that NEED - renter's insurance. Anything that belongs to YOU will be covered (check your specific policy), not just what belongs to the building owner from their insurance. That means electronics, clothing, any furniture you might buy, any appliances like a microwave you might buy, etc. Speaking of microwaves, see if one is included. I had an apartment once that had one built in. Otherwise you'll want to get a cheap one when you move in. You'd be surprised at how much they actually get used.

I was gonna say, that is insanely cheap for an apartment in DC.

I live in a 1 bedroom apartment and it costs $1450 a month, and that was about $400 cheaper than the other one i was looking at
    I miss you guys....-tczyl2-png
