You wont have any problem quitting at basic, although the tobacco users are always more fidgety when its time to get on line, and the smokers generally get an upper respiratory infection after a few weeks.

Your problem will be staying tobacco free AFTER basic. I dont know whether the military is cracking down on tobacco use these days, but in the mid 90's tobacco use was rampant.
