EDIT: It is worth noting that where I live (Oregon) we have no sales tax (which is unusual in the states) but we have abnormally high property taxes to balance that (so housing here is expensive too...)

Hmmm roughly 25% for myself in British Columbia. BC Gov is money hungry and loves the taxes. HST,PST, Carbon Tax, Gas Tax ect.....

So... you pay the same taxes that I, a member of the superior, capitalist, low-tax economy, do out of your net? And I am low income, so if I made yet more, I would be taxed higher than you, a member of a socialist economy with oppressive taxes?
