Thread: ...your local newspaper sucks.

Last week - Friday, there was a suicide in the parking lot of a local restaurant that sits next to a local tattoo parlor.

Shortly after, a bomb scare occurred and the block was evacuated while the bomb squad dealt with the situation...

All that day...nothing on the newspaper's website.

The next day, nothing in the paper, not even in the local section.

Days and days go by and we finally get an article...on the website...

Midtown’s bella bella restaurant was evacuated Friday afternoon after officers investigating a death at a shop next door found a suspicious box.

The box inside No Regrets tattoo shop, however, was found by bomb squad officers to contain routine ammunition.

No foul play is suspected in the death at the tattoo shop located near the corner of North Monroe Street and Fifth Avenue

Seriously? Routine ammunition? What would unroutine ammunition be? Ammunition made of cheese? Ammunition of a very obscure caliber?

What about the dead body...no foul play - well, that leaves natural causes or suicide...thanks for reporting the news!

What do you expect? These are writers who couldn't make it for either the national or regional papers, and they have friends in local government so as a result they get jobs in the local press.

My local newspaper sucks pretty bad too. But yeah, Soy is correct. Print is dying or dead. My stepmom worked for the AP for like 27 years and had lots of experience but they pushed her out of the door, and brought in people without good judgment of whats newsworthy and such. As a result, the AP is dying.

Oh well.

I figured that red_lizard2 was single-handedly keeping them in business with all of his linking.

With 4 news stations and a newspaper, I enjoy reading the stories from calls I was on. One incident three different locations were given by the media, none of them were right, yet I was there when the press release was given and heard the info first hand being given to the reporters. I have also been in command and read the press release that was being given to the media only to watch the story on the internet say a completely different set of events.

I love going online and hearing or reading the different versions. With everything going online it seems they try to crank out stories to beat the other stations. They lack substance and appear to have missed the editor on their way to the internet.

My city's newspaper is AWFUL!!! Though I am no liberal, I would still respect their views if they didn't put their bogus spin on everything instead of actually reporting the news. All they gotta do is report on local events, is that so hard to do? :1. There are some good people that work there though. My family has some good connections there and we get our business ads real cheap when we put them in the paper, so I guess I can't complain too much.

nah, me and Mr. White keep the BBC in business though


Our paper here is pretty shitty too. Apparently we had a rape and murder happen, as well as another rape (this one near the school campus) and not ONE word in the paper about it. Probably because they decided to chickenshit out under the pressure of the local governments to keep quiet. Worthless bastards.


The Phoenix paper though (Arizona Republic, which is also online) is pretty good, though a bit bias at times. and supposedly ASUs paper is pretty good as well.
