Thread: Hardest Professional Sports Title to Win

If soccer were on the list that'd take the cake, but in keeping the discussion to the ones on the poll I would have to go Stanley Cup. And I think my reasoning has already been posted by others in a lot more detail than I could make

Stanley Cup theres no doubt.

I dunno ATXPLEX, it's easier to lose/win a single game than 4/7 IMO.

World Series because of all the games it takes to get up to that point. ALOT of games to even get to the playoffs.

1) Hockey, for sure. I'm measuring difficulty by how often you have to be at peak intensity and hard it is to stay there. In Hockey you're playing constantly and the more minutes your best players are spending on the ice, in full pads, exhausting themselves, the better chance you have at winning. They're constantly slamming into each other and blocking shots, occasionally with their face. Plus those beards really start to weigh you down after awhile.

2) Basketball is also a big grind, especially for the starters that stay on the floor for most of the game. Playoffs are the time when you're getting banged up every time you take the ball inside, especially if you've got the hot hand. Lots and lots of running, day in and day out, too.

3) Baseball has a long ass season but you aren't constantly exhausting yourself. It's more of a mental challenge of keeping your reflexes and reactions at fever pitch. Also, if you have a terrible game (0 and 4) but still field OK there's a good chance it won't even matter in the grand scheme of things, as long as you can have a couple good games.

4) Football you have to be studying the other team during the breaks and play at peak intensity during the actual game, but most of your days are spent not involved in an actual competition. It's a hugely difficult sport when you're playing it, but you just don't play it as much as the other sports.

Do you mean the league championship or the actual title series or game itself? As far as games themselves go, the Stanely Cup finals is the toughest fought of these games. Both teams always seem to bring it for every game. Second place would go to the World Series because they teams get to know their opposing batters and pitching so well. 3rd would be the NBA for similar reasons to the World series. Superbowl would be last because you just have to win one game. Now, for the championship, I would say that the NFL is the toughest league to win because there is so much parity and so few games that an injury to one key guy can effectively end a season for a whole team. The other sports on the list have more games and a team may be able to make up for a period of time where they are missing star players. NHL would be second because they have to play hard every night. NBA would be third for the same reason as the NHL. But the NBA lacks parity. MLB would be last on this list to me because they have almost no parity and its the same teams doing very well year in and year out.
