In 3rd grade they said we needed to learn cursive because it was really important and we would need the skill for the rest of our lives. After 3rd grade I never used cursive again (excluding my signature) until that stupid part of the SAT's. Haven't used it since either.

I didn't have cursive on the SAT I took. Cursive, ha. Ever since computers, Microsoft Word and other word processing apps.... cursive is no longer needed. Everybody expects "professionally" typed papers, not hand-written. Man, I remember taking the State exam (TAAS, now known as TAKS or some shit) and having to hand write like a 3-4 page paper on a topic, subject, situation, or whatever you want to call it. That was in like late elementary and middle school, and the last state exam I had to take was in my Sophomore or Junior year in HS.

I think it's pretty new. I'm 99% sure it wasn't there the first time I took them two or three years ago but it was there the year after. It was just a short passage that we had to copy in cursive, we did it right after all the name/location stuff before the proctor started the time. It was a joke, he was like showing us what all the letters looked like and stuff.

I remember that SAT thing. No one knew how to write cursive. We had to have the test monitor show us uppercase Q's and S's and things like that.

When pens would blot when stopped there was a point to it, now it has settled into the 'users mark' genre of our signatures on official documents.

They still teach in in elementary school, but it is pretty much getting to the point that calligraphy is currently.
