You somehow make this sound dirty. Currently at home I use some fabric mat that came with -- something that's from memorex.. my only guess there is it came with some multimedia package or other. But at work we have laminate desks, and I do like the feel of free-balling my mouse. Alas you guys all keep reminding me of my desk building project.

don't use one, but that has mainly been due to laziness more then anything. Probably the closest i've gotten (if it counts) is using old pizza boxes . (In fairness, old pizza boxes make great mini portable tables. Good for when lying in bed if you don't have a nightstand (or the nightstand is covered in papers and crap))

when I had my old desk it had this weird top that reflected slightly and drove the mouse nuts, so I taped a sheet of 8x11 printer paper to it.

    Re: Pad or No Pad?

The reason I haven't been using one is that my desk has a painted surface that has tons of tiny grey specks in it so I dont get weird jumps or other anomalies. Also I have it setup so I can shift everything up which gives me plenty of room to work on homework or projects, having a mouse pad was making it extremely annoying for moving. Third, I never really looked for the previously mentioned performance pads simply because I didn't think the money was worth it. However many of ya'll have posted some material worth investigating, lol.
