Not the ones that give you tickets but the ones that let you know what speed you are going. Its always 5-7mph slower than what I am actually going.

You are right for the most part jason. The ones you see in the school zones (i like to call "high score machines") are not very accurate. They are an old type of radar system...Dont really judge your speed on that.

And yes, most cops do not carrey the ones that allow you both to be traveling. Most cops just have one they have to aim at you. But these are city cops we are talking about. Big city cops, for instance Indianapolis, do not do traffic, they dont care. There is a seperate traffic unit that does (cops with no light bars, unmarked). The cops that will have the high tech stuff are your 100% traffic cops, and State Police.

I know here if you see a squad car cruising chances are high they arent running radar. Most traffic guys have the undercover cars or the motorcycle cops(bastard) Just pull right over yeah that works... well it had until I got pulled over by the ticket writing ass. This guy writes a ton of tickets and has pulled over almost everyone I work with. They do have the laser unit they use it for speed traps. Small towns normally cant afford the high dollar shit and a good (escort) radar detector will alert you in plenty of time. I know in several vehicles I have been in the speed I see is faster than what is actually clocked.

I know when the county does a speed trap they line up about 4 patrol cars and a couple motorcycles around a curve or over a hill. Leading up to that they have a "construction worker" clocking and radioing to his buddies. So they can get a whole pack of cars. The laser can pick out a single cars speed. Older radar units are just that, radar. They pick up on large square(sharp corners) objects, A motorcycle going 80 next to a big truck running 50 will show up as 50 on radar because the radar signal reflects better off the large square flat surfaces.

and that stay with or just behind a pack of others speeding is bullshit, whoever gets hit with the gun will be getting the ticket no matter where you are in the pack.... cant believe they would tell people that. i do know changing lanes more than usual will usually draw more attention to you so staying in your lane does help but still no guarentee you are safe from the ticket.
