AT&T Cuts Unlimited Data Plan

The thing that I'm afraid of once they start this there won't be any going back. We'll have the beginning of tiered plans and this will prove that it works. So who is going to use that as evidence? The broadband providers.

My wife and I have used 3.5 gigs (with a week to go on our billing cycle.) I've got a Droid, she has the Droid Eris.

doesn't affect me yet, got awhile before i can afford a smartphone and the plan. Right now my phone can get me to google maps and soccernet, don't need much else.

I've had my Iphone for almost a week or so and I've been downloading ish left and right and I'm only up to 300 megs or so. To me, 3 gigs and unlimited will be the same thing.

And how about they just cut unlimited data in the Frisco and New York areas exclusively??

I think you are going to find 2gb of data easier to reach and exceed when 4G becomes more widely available than it is now. Look at what the smartphones are allowing you to do - stream youtube seemlessly, slingbox, netflix, post videos and pics with the hi-res camera, front facing camera for conferencing, tethering, hot spot, etc. Now phones are coming out with larger and better resolution screens.

Hell, the phone I'm getting tomorrow on launch day is the HTC EVO 4g - the damn thing has a kickstand on it to make it easier to watch multi-media at my desk. Luckily I don't have time at work to watch videos, or abc primetime tv recordings, etc. If I did, 2gb might be exceeded in a week or two.

Regarding data plans, you are absolutely right - once they start this, and the they is not just AT&T, there won't be going back. They'll fine tune the plans down to fit the marketplace and just as they used to do for voice - it will be a costly premium to get all you can eat.

I just passed 1 year on my iphone and I have only used 3.9gigs for the whole year. That's all the facebook, internet radio when I'm out or just going to sleep and need something to listen too.

If you feel you could even break 2gigs in a month you need to be charged WAY more because it's ridiculous and would clog up the network too much.

It should save you money if you don't go over the 2 GB limit, which most people don't. For heavy data users, this is yet another reason why AT&T sucks.

Like five bucks right? Isn't the unlimited plan $30? I mean, $5 is YOUR money, but still it's not like you're saving $20 or more.

I was a Verizon/Alltel Customer for the last 7.5 years and I loved them. I didn't want to go ATT b/c of all the negativity that was spoken of them. But so far I havent had any problems and have had basically the same reception in all areas as I did with Verizon.
