Sure apple has it's fanboys. But what product doesn't?
Since this is a new twist in the tablet market. It's far from perfect.
Let's look at doctors or hospitals. Wouldn't it be nice to just carry around one tablet and have all the information right there? Everything typed out. Not scribbled in so you won't get misinformation? Sure that's a small perctage but it'll make it even smaller.
The iPhone already has apps directed at doctors. But make those apps for a tablet and something other than apple. And you might have a good chance of it actually working. Then again you'd have to make sure your IT has the system locked up good because of patiant informantion.

i prefer phones over some big tablet. It is nice to be, for example, in Seattle and can pull out a phone and find something to eat nearby. Instead of having to carry a laptop around with you, find somewhere with WiFi (not as hard in big cities now of days but still), etc. etc.
Plus for me, I got my laptop so it could play games (grad. gift a couple years back) not so much for its portability :P

The ipad is a bit too big... phones are a bit too small... ereaders aren't quite versatile enough...
But a 7" or 8" android tablet... I'm all over that.
I want an ereader to do one thing. Read books. Right now they are a bit too expensive. But the epaper tech is starting to become a bit cheaper and I expect to see sub 100 dollar ereaders soon.
Ipads are locked into what Steve Jobs wants you to do/run/use... And that's it's biggest downfall.
Android is so versatile and it's being free allows anyone with reasonable hardware to run it and offer a viable piece of electronics at a good price. We are going to see dozens of android products over the next 18 months and Poor Mr Jobs is going to be going "wtf just happened?!" as his sales start getting eaten into.
