Serious Topic Regarding Issue with Job, Serious Response/Inquires Only

Well I am off today. Having a good day.

Then I get a Text Message from my work supervisor stating I need to come to the office on Monday because I am not permitted to Work from Home until futher notice and to read my business email for futher details.

First I am upset because I can not work from my house and now have to drive to work which is pain where I live.
Second I am even more upset because what kind of company notifies there employees about major work changes via text message.

The reason I and many other have been asked to start working back in the office is because were not meeting our sales metrics.

Well let see I won Corporate for the 1st business quarter for having the best sales metrics.
I have been in the top 10 of 100+ people for the last 2 most recent months plus my sales stats were higher then most this fiscal month and this with me taking 1 1/2 weeks off for my new baby and my wife's recovery.

    So my questions are:

On monday should I request to speak to Sales Director aka "The Man" regarding this decision?

Also I should I entertain the idea of new employment? The for this second question is I quite this company before but decided to come back for financial reasons and I find myself in the same position I was almost 3 years ago.

The text message thing is kind of iffy. I think your supervisor should have called you and told you personally.

In regards to how you should handle it, I think that you need to show up as requested and talk to your supervisor first. Ask for an explanation of "why" these are changing. Do NOT give any feedback to the reason... just nod your head, say "uh huh", "mkay", and thank him for the clarification. Even if everything was specified in the E-Mail, just ask him to explain. If he says "Do you have any questions about it?", you can then start digging into why you were specifically chosen to return to the office.

You need to be careful as to not come across as whining. Businesses make changes all the time. Resistance to change is the first reason Managers will look to get rid of people, no matter how good your stats are. Managers know that everyone can be replaced.

As for the other job... how long have you worked there? In today's world, if you have been doing the same thing for 4-5 years without a major promotion, it is probably time to look elsewhere. Just don't jump ship before you have another gig sealed up.

Well I work for this company about 3 years. Left, and tired something different. Came back on good terms just like I left on good terms hence why I was rehired and here it is almost 2+ years later I find myself in the same position where this company is doing illlogicial business moves/changes that to the average person would probably make absolutely no sense.

And like were 4 days into what my company consider its fiscal month and because a couple days not meeting sales stats myself and other are being called to work in the office and to make matters worst there is little to no seating in the office hence the purpose of people working from home.

    1. Sometimes, especially with bug companies, the failures of some cause consequences for the successful as well.

    2. The grass is not always greener, didn't you learn that last time?

I would have to say they are making a blanket policy which doesn't reflect on your performance. They have to keep it across the board or the whole why do i have to and he doesn't kicks in. I had to do the same thing with cell phones for my employees a couple years ago. Sure it sucks to have to punish those that aren't an issue but you only create a bigger issue by not making everyone conform.

As a business owner i wouldn't be upset if someone mentioned to me that they aren't part of the problem but it has to be done with respect for the position your talking to. If what your saying is true (not saying your lieing) then they already know the facts and are doing what they have to in order to keep the business thriving. They will probably relex on it for those that don't have a problem a couple months later. Just go with it in the end they are trying to keep everyone in a job.

If they have problems staffing you in the office I would ride it out. Only one of three things are likely to happen.
    1) Expanding capacity
    2) Reducing staff
    3) Going back to off-site reps.

The other, really bad 4th (which would indicate poor management) --> Capacity issues lead to reduced productivity and nothing is done about it.

If they are calling everyone in due to reduced output, they have a pretty good reason to blanket it and see who they need to get rid of. Once this is done I expect they'll go back to 3 if/when staffing is expanding.

Commutes surely suck, and I bet its awesome to work from home (without being on-call), but you may want to consider this as a perk many don't have in businesses and make do with what you are given. All comes down to whether you really like the job, the pay, and have better options to go elsewhere.

What did the full email say? You left us kind of vague...
