What was trying to say was, based on video it seems like shes watching and theres someone else filming. I think I made the assumption taht the person filiming the video was her husband and he could stopped fucking filming to try save the animal. Even if the deer didn't back down to human presence she MAY have changed targets and left the hurt animal alone. Thus the human could run back into the house to safety. They just sat there and watched a defensless animal get stomped and just filmed away. In any case it's true taht who ever dog taht is should never have there dog just roaming around.

It was a Neighbour filming the video.
We've been getting a lot of hate mail," she said. "But really we were in shock and we don't know what to do. [The deer] was really mad and could have injured one of us."

The dog belongs to a neighbour, said Subra, and has been examined by a veterinarian. It had no broken bones or other serious injuries, he said.

Another article on this... little more info on this..

The poor thing only has one eye and he’s arthritic and he’s deaf — he didn’t know what hit him.”

Walsh said deer vs. pet fights have become a big problem in Cranbrook.

A number of injured pets have been treated, and the hospital has had to “put little dogs down, because they’ve been so badly mauled,” Walsh said.

With human-deer conflicts surging across B.C., the provincial Environment Ministry commissioned the B.C. Urban Ungulate Conflict report this year. The next step is to help municipalities implement recommendations, a ministry spokesman said.

Cranbrook spokesman Chris Zettel said mayor and council will meet with the ministry on July 9, to address the deer problem.

Following Subra’s deer attack video, a number of worried Cranbrook residents have called city hall, Zettel said.

“Rightfully, they’re concerned about their own safety and their pets,” Zettel said. “Council is trying to push the ministry to do something [because] it’s been a growing issue for a few years.”

    Re: Deer 1 Dog 0

You know, after watching the video a couple of times, I'm kind of upset with how the people there handled this. I would like to think it's common knowledge that if you see a fawn laying anywhere near you that you don't go anywhere near it and that make it a point to remove yourself and any animals within view from the scene; especially if a doe shows up. It is simply too dangerous to be anywhere near a fawn, let alone a doe and its fawn. Get inside a house and call the necessary persons to address the situation. I mean, c'mon. From the article that Sauso posted, it seems like it should be well known that deer/pets and deer/human conflicts are a problem there. If you know there's an issue with conflicts with deer then do not let your pets roam free, especially if you spot a fawn.

I do feel for the dog though and am really thankful that the old guy was OK after the attack. There was nothing that could have been done once the doe began its attack on him, though. There were far too many houses to even think of firing off a gun (nor was there any time for anyone to go get a weapon) and trying to engage the doe would have resulted in injuries to the person(s) engaging it. The cat also got very lucky that the people got the doe's attention. A dog can survive that (at least the larger ones can), I highly doubt a cat could.
