Re: James Toney on Randy Couture, Dana White, MMA
That fool is going to get rick rolled.
MMA fighters ARE better - they are more well-rounded, hence the name MIXED martial arts. They know more than just 1 style. This chump has ZERO ground game. ZERO. No wrestling, no jujitsu, no muay thai, no karate, no nothing... Just boxing. He'll get choked out within the 1st round of every match.Last edited by BigHub; 07-08-10 at 10:55 AM.

The dude is a clown...
I am never going to count him out because of his great boxing skills, but I really believe randy is going to beat him. Yeah we will see how much he knows about mma in august...going to be sad how little he knows though once he gets taken down by randy.

True, but boxers have trained all their lives just for one thing: to knock people out...and if anyone in MMA has a 'puncher's chance' ...it's boxers. One good shot Toney gets off before Randy is able to take it to the ground and it's lights out Randy. I'd say 95% of the time MMA fighters will beat boxers...but there's still that slight 5% chance (see Tim Sylvia vs. Ray Mercer)

Re: James Toney on Randy Couture, Dana White, MMA
If Toney's act and ranting is for real, that he isnt preparing himself for couture to close the distance and lean on him against the fence, if he isn't working on takedown defense, etc.... then Randy will annihilate him. Randy will embarrass him...... because striking for boxing is completely different than striking for mma. For mma, you have to adjust your stance to account for a takedown attempt, to sprawl in time and so forth. Your hands have to be lower.. If Toney comes in and doesn't make those adjustments, he's fucked...
If Toney's act is not legit, if he's secretly working his ass off to defend on his back and can keep the fight standing...then I think he's got a legit shot at knocking out Randy. Toney's striking is vastly superior than Randy's, much more technical, and much more powerful. They're not even in the same league.
The intruiging thing about this fight is that each fighter's strength is light years better than his opponents. Randy's a vastly better wrestler and grappler, James' boxing is light years better than Randy's. we're not talking about small, nuanced advantages here....
Who can impose their advantage first on the other guy wins, basically....

Re: James Toney on Randy Couture, Dana White, MMA
There's no way he can take a solid combo from Toney... but I doubt Randy will even give Toney a chance on his feet. That's probably why Randy took the fight, it's a monumental challenge for him to prepare and gameplan for. That's why he took the Brock fight too...
What interests me is that they appear to be so opposite. It could be a 10 second KO or a 30 second arm bar. You can't really anticipate how the fight will go.I love pro boxing but the matchups and possible outcomes are much more juicy and entertaining in mma, imho...........Last edited by Toker; 07-08-10 at 11:16 AM.
