Applying for a Call Center, question on experience listing...

I'll try to explain this quick.

I'm applying for a call center and have to set up a resume in text only format. The Resume is as complete as I can make it seeing as how I have no actual employment experience, however, I DO have experience in Customer Service from back before I joined TPG as a Game Master for a number of Private servers for a couple Games. Would this be relevant enough to place on the Resume or not?

Probably not unless the servers you admin'd were very widely known and had a huge memberbase.

I would say yes. GM is customer service. therefore relevant experience

But it's still a Private Server. You could mention it but who would have any idea what a GM is for a small server?

My Ragnarok server served at least 150 simultaneious logins, my first Maplestory server served at least 300, and the last one was small because it was made up of people who left the first Maple server(maybe 100 on a good day but I shifted nights so that went down to about 20...)

Well that's not very many people at all...maybe if you were something like a mod or admin at TPG you could mention that since TPG is about 8000 members strong. But even then, that's pushing it.

Maybe if you were a GM for WoW you could put that in there...but that's unlikely.

You can choose to do what you want, but be prepared to do a lot of explaining to your employer about what a GM is, and what you did, etc.

Re: Applying for a Call Center, question on experience listing...

Put it in there with nebulous enough wording to get you an interview. It is valuable experience and you will be able to explain it. Getting to the interview is the key part... getting past any computer or human resources screening, so that you are in the same room with the person who can either hire you or whose opinion most matters for your getting hired. After that, it's all up to you anyway... we've hired people with shit resumes who made it in and we realized "Hey, this guy kicks ass."

Also, the technical side of the call center may not even be the most important part that your future employer is looking for. Showing that you take your responsibilities seriously, will show up every day and on time, and will be responsible in your job are also very key especially for entry level positions. You can teach the technical side to a lot of people... for jobs with less than like 5-10 years experience, finding people who really devote themselves to a task and work hard can be so much more important.

Your resume should say to the employer "You can rely on me to do my best at my job, take pride in my work and be honest."
