09-12-10, 10:06 PM #1Gonna take my dad fishing.
Going to take him fishing for an early birthday present probably in the next month or so, and I was wondering if anyone had some suggestions on good lakes to go fishing/camping (might just sleep in/on the boat) at. Having lunch with him tomorrow and tell him.
I was thinking of doing a day trip on a charter for salt water, but I realized that with the whole Deep Water Horizon fiasco with BP it was probably not a good idea.
So far I have been thinking of Inks Lake or Choke Lake, but thought some people here might have some good insight and suggestions, what's the best this time of year?

I'm not sure what is best this time of year, but my dad, brother, and I used to always go to Canyon Lake. Went there for years, but it has not been as good as it was, although we've never gone out on a boat there either.
Medina Lake or Braun Lake aren't too bad either. I haven't been fishing in a while though so I'm not sure how many of the lakes are anymore.

Yeah, Canyon not so much anymore for fishing with what it has been through the last couple of years I would say. Specifically, I really want to find a lake with a State Park with lots of fishing area under the "Take Me Fishing" organization (don't need a fishing license as long as you are within park boundaries), but I'm gonna buy us both licenses if we need to since it is September and this is the month to do those licenses.

Gibbons Creek ftw.

Tilapia out the ass, bass, catfish, crappie, alligator gar... it's good fishing. You do need a license though.Last edited by BigHub; 09-22-10 at 09:56 PM.
