Moving to DC, apartment hunting
I am transferring within the FAA to work in Washington DC. I'm trying to find a place to live in as early as October 1st, but definitely by November 1st. Any locals know of some good places? I'm doing my own apartment hunting, but I hear that many great places aren't really listed since they are in high enough demand that they don't need to be. I'm looking for a 1 bedroom, close to metro stop, 20-30 minutes max commute via metro to the L'enfant plaza stop (yellow/green/orange/blue lines). Me and more importantly my guests not getting shot walking around town is preferable. Any advice from locals or those that lived there before is appreciated! Thanks!

I live in NW DC very close to the National Cathedral. It's a really nice place, very safe and very convenient location.
I'm about 1 mile from the Tenleytown Metro stop on the Red line, so it would most likely be a 30 minute commute (10 to bike to metro, 20-25 on it because you have to switch lines)
PM me if you want some more info

I spend a weekend each year in crystal city (although mostly in the Hyatt). It's ok for having an anime convention where everyone just stays at the hotel, but not much exists really outside it unless people want to hike to the mall on foot. Otherwise eerily residential. The two malls nearby have sucked most main-street commercial stuff dry, although there are a couple of hole in the wall places. It's gentrified a lot more since you guys banned overflight approaches west of the pkwy; I suppose the next question is can you afford to live there
