    Re: The Beer Thread

Sigh...so I just popped open a Samuel Smith's Imperial Stout expecting to get a tasty delight, but noooooo...maybe it was the batch specific to the bottle, but the words to describe the beer I'm tasting are "It would be quite good if it wasn't watered down." Le Sigh...I'm sticking to their nut brown ale and oatmeal stout from now on.
enf-Jesus its been like 12 minutes and you're already worried about stats?! :-P

I had a tough time getting through the first few Winter Lagers tonite, but Im going to attribute that to them being bought off the shelf at room temperature and only being chilled for a good 20-30 min. I still have hope for you Sam Adams!!!

Great lakes has a lot of good beers.
Most of the Samuel Smith's I drink on a regular occasion, my fav being the oatmeal stout.
Left hand brewing I like a lot, milk stout being my fav.

Being born and raised in WI i absolutely love Leinenkugels. Honey weiss is the best. Then probably 1888 Bock. Summer Shandy in the summer you can't beat it. When Im sitting at home, and I just want a great taste, and when you can actually get Honey Weiss down here in KY, I will mix half and half of honey and berry weiss.... omg so goooood
Another brewery in WI is New Glaris. A couple of em are good but I love Spotted Cow.

One of my favorite beers of all time is Yuengling, whether it be the regular or porter. Can't buy it here in KY for some reason no one carries it, not even Liquor Barn.

Love me some Hoogarden, and Wittekerke.

But, if I plan on drinking not so much for taste, I will always go to Miller Lite

**One brewing company I have found as of recent with some damn good flavors is Avery Brewing. I recently tried their White Rascal and fell in love with it. Their Ellies Brown Ale is good. Theres a place here in lexington called the Beer Trappe. They have 8 constantly rotating beers on draft. They are an Artisanal Beer Shop and Tasting Bar. They do not serve Bud, miller, coors all that crap. Nothing but great hard to find small brewery beers. Recently they had a rep from the Avery Brewing Company there. He brought with him a barrel of Avery Rumpkin. Imperial Pumpkin Ale brewed with pumpkin puree and a blend of five spices. Aged in extremely fresh Gosling’s Rum barrels for six months. The rep brought 1/60 barrels made for the entire country. With 13% alcohol in it, it didn't take much. One of the best beers I've ever had. Was amazing.

    Re: The Beer Thread

Has anyone ever had any issues with Blue Moon and deep sleep? It sounds weird but I have a friend that says if he has even one at any point in the nite, he sleeps right through his alarm. Of course that nite, he drank one after some razzing from me and he was late for work the next day for sleeping through his alarm. Sounds like some personal problem I thought (though its odd because he is a very early riser, even after a hefty nite of drinking), but then my fiance and I were drinking it one nite and ended up sleeping until about 4 in the afternoon. Like a deeeeep comatose sleep.

Wondering if theres something in the beer because none of us have any issues with any other beer or spirit...

    Re: The Beer Thread

Lately for me it has been straight up Budweiser or Michelob AmberBock, or ZiegenBock—they're both the same thing, made by Anheuser-Busch. They're inexpensive, consistently good-tasting, and always bubbly enough. Flat beers suck.

Shiner Bock is ridiculously overpriced these days. On a whim, I grabbed some Budweiser Select this week and I'm enjoying it. It's almost a light beer, but not quite and doesn't taste watered down.

Depending on my mood, I also enjoy:

    Young's Oatmeal Stout (discontinued?)
    Young's Double Chocolate Stout
    Guinness Stout
    Michelob Dunkel Weisse
Shiner Bohemian Black Lager & Summer Stock
Blackened Voodoo (oh, how I miss this one)
    Red Stripe

My all-time fave is a Black & Tan pint—half Guinness Stout, half Bass Ale.

My one rule to live by for beer: Never drink anything in a green bottle and you'll be alright.
    Happiness is a roiling fermenter.
