How To Climb A Transmission Tower

The guy I work with that has climbed before says they dont tie onto anything til they get to the top. When he did it they tied a rope to themselves climbed up to the top ran the rope through a pully and hooked a weight on it and sent it down to a winch to use to pull tools and stuff up.

Late one night we got a fire call for a tower on fire. When we got there we saw sparks shooting off the side. The tower needed repair so they waited til late at night to shut the tower off and send a welder up there to fix the problem. Climbing in the dark to go weld way up high... yeah I'll stay down here.

That would be one hell of a base jump from up there. It would be cool, but probably dangerous as all hell with all the supporting cabled at the bottom and what not.

climbed what? Thats not standard rock climbing practice... We either top, lead, or sport. (anchor at the top, anchor at clips in intervals along the way up, cam for anchors)

Talkin bout climbing towers. thats the way the guy here at work said they did it. Free climb with no tie. Drug a rope all the way to the top to drop down to pull up supplies.

That is crazy, but at least they have a modercum of saftey in mind.

As opposed to these Russian teens...

It's only 900 ft up and you don't have any safety... I'm sure it'll be fine...
