Re: How To Climb A Transmission Tower
My grandfathers friend owns a couple towers and he does repair work on them so, my grandfather, my uncle and a guy at work have all climbed for him at one time or another. They have worked on many of the TV towers here in town. My grandfather even climbed the antenna on the top of the tower of americas here in san antonio. I think they are crazy. I would be shaking, I might be able to do it if i could wear a harness and hook in.

Re: How To Climb A Transmission Tower
Why not put the electrical box closer to the ground instead of at the very fucking top of it... Geniuses.
It would take less time to fix, and also reduce job accidents/deaths greatly. I dunno, maybe there's a reason it's way up there. Either way, fuck that shit.

Re: How To Climb A Transmission Tower
Wow fools anchor/ backup is only 1 line. Not to mention i am utterly shocked theres no anchor track on that. Silly design....
Not to mention hes waring gloves, which on top of that have no wrist straps = super dangerous...
He should be rolling double anchors, trailing 1 behind that his partner bucks up, and other that he places on lead. With him and his partner tied. = 3 fall backs...
Bet that things swaying like no other too....
One things for certain though, balls of steel man....Last edited by Bunni; 12-08-10 at 12:13 PM.

Re: How To Climb A Transmission Tower
The box has to be up there. That is the disconnect (switch) for the signal light (and whatever else they have up there), and if they need to work on it, they need to be able to turn it off. According to the National Electrical Code, it needs to be "readily accessible", and "within sight", so that the guy working on it can make absolutely sure he has it de-energized. A pretty shitty place to take any voltage......taking it on ground is bad enough, but when you are higher than the Sears Tower.....
I bet those are some of the most expensive light bulbs in the World to change. "Free Climbing" my ass.....
And you would think that instead of those railroad spike rungs, they would be loops. Hooking the safety clamp over a spike seems like a joke. And maybe just put a toolbox at the top.....so the next fool doesn't have to drag one with him.
