I know several "yankees" that enjoy grits..so it's not entirely just a southern thing. The further north/mid-west you go, where the south puts butter/cheese/salt..they put sugar.

But no lie, shrimp and grits...you can't beat it. My friends and I as kids used to make S.O.S. for camp food while on weekend camping excursions...this is where I actually learned of grits, it's not an Italian or German dish so it was foreign to me, plain, I think they're disgusting, but when mixed in stuff...totally awesome.

I know some of you have been to New Orleans. You can find shrimp and grits EVERYWHERE. They're great with crawfish, crab, lobster...hell I like anything with seafood though..
