I agree with dix, get a shepherd. I have one and will never get any other type of breed. From intelligence to temperament to personality, they are top notch.

God, how does your malamute fare in the florida weather? I would assume the heat and humidity isn't much comfort for her/him.

She does just fine. It just means her winter coat doesn't last as long.

Try one of these dogs. I have 2 of them and they are quite the dog. Part wolf. Professionally bred to an acceptable, trainable animal.

How much did yours cost? And was yours trained before you got it?

If the a wolf is like a pit bull then I dont want one at all.. The reason is, is that you can raise a pit from day one and treat it with the best care as you can and ONE day the dog will attack out of no where.. and I DEF. cant have that with 2 kids.. I just want a good dog that will train fairly easy, very smart, hunt if wanted, and will protect my kids if any encounters with someone entering the household.

A blackmouth cur is a great family dog that can be trained to hunt and work cattle.

Thats what I'm looking for... does anyone have a blackmouth cur by a chance that can give me some more info on the dog? Personal info instead of internet search info.

My dog is a cross, and he was the runt so he is smaller than most. Home Page the one on the home page is exactly what mine looks like. He loves to be right with me, he hates being alone. He is still very hyper at 13 months old, but a lot of fun. He is smart but hard headed, as in he knows when he is doing something wrong, but does it anyways until he gets caught. When I watch TV he will come lay right next to me. He has no problems with people, kids might be scared off by the hyperness at first because he loves meeting new people and wants to be right on top of them. Once he settles to new people he is very calm.

Of all the dogs I've ever owned or in this case owned me was a Basenji, the most fun and entertaining dog I ever had. The main problem is you need a large area for them to run cause they love to run and are super fast which is how I lost mine, my kid was going to take him for a walk on his bike as he opened the front door the dog took off and jerked the leash out of my boys hand. We found him later that day ran over it was literary the loss of a family member. Basenji - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

It almost bring tears to my eyes to look at the pictures of the red Basenji thats exactly what he looked like.
