Am I the only one that finds it disappointing that Red Dead Redemption is GI's game of the year? Everyone I talked to said it was GTA but old west and got stale really quickly. How could they possibly give this game over ones like God of War 3, Mass Effect 2, Starcraft 2 and Halo Reach? Overall I would say that I am not surprised because 2010 was really weak for game releases. BUT 2011 looks to be an awesome year with the release of Elder Scrolls 5 alone. But seriously someone explain to me whats so great about Red Dead Redemption.

I don't need someone else to tell me what games I like.

It was a fun game, I played the shit out of it before it got old. God of War 3 was also really good but there's not much else to do in it once you beat it.

Never played any of the GoW series (debating it though) or Red Dead Redemption. It didn't look that impressive to me either though.

There were some better games that came out though that I thought would have gotten it too like SC2 since it is so huge. I guess they don't care about PC games though as much huh?

And yes, hopefully 2011 will be a better year for games. It certainly looks promising so far.

Duke Nukem is finally coming out.
Portal 2 will be hitting the shelves around April (assuming they don't change it again).
Homefront looks pretty badass.
Elder Scrolls 5
BF3 (still rumor though isn't it)?
And if we're lucky Diablo 3? (wishful thinking...)

Don't forget the 3DS is launching in March I believe too. That might give them some competition. I can't say I've ever seen a handheld win a Game of the Year award though.

Red Dead was amazing. Maybe you should play it instead of just bashing it?

I couldn't hardly play GTA 4 at all before getting bored out of my mind... but Red Dead kept my attention long after the ending. The story was GREAT to boot too!

RDR was my game of the year ever since I finished playing it. Shit is so awesome. They gave it GOTY because of the storyline..it's original folks, and it's near perfect. Sure the gameplay is like GTA and how can anyone complain?? GTA is awesome, you can't not like it because of the freedom. Not disappointed at all and in fact I'm happy to hear the news. Like QL said you've got to play it and experience it to criticize it..it's epic in every way.
