Couldn't the conferences stand to make more money? I think most of them make it off t.v. revenues, and it would seem a playoff would lead to more games with a higher viewership then the current system (but I could be wayyy wrong).
Though, it could be argued that it would be off-set by the possible viewership of regular season games going down

They can absolutely stand to make more $$$. The question is, will they. Can Cuban create a system that will still shovel out the millions consistently to the SEC, PAC 10, Big 12, etc... as the BCS does now?
From a purist stand point, a playoff is the obvious choice. But the decision will never be made on the basis of the most competitive option. It will be made on how much money the conferences are getting now versus what they can get with a new set up.
And you can bet the farm that if they play extra games at the end of the season b/c of a new system that player compensation will become even more relevant in the world of NCAA football.

Though with the conferences setting up their own TV networks (or wanting to) and TV deals etc., they wouldn't really need the BCS money as much. But I think the bigger issue for them is going to be those regular season games on their tv networks or tv deals. Just look at college basketball, only a handful of people gave a shit before February rolled around, now its all over ESPN, games on every day etc. etc.

College Football Winners Still Lose as Bowl Costs Exceed Payout - Bloomberg
In many cases, other than the very top, the schools and conferences are losing money on the bowls anyway. I am sure a few million cash will always entice schools and conferences.
